I just posted my 3rd video on YouTube! It was meant to be a review of the huge amount that I’ve learned in my first week, but I ended up having a picnic with a friend (Livian) who inspired me to become a YouTuber as he happened to be in town.
It was great catching up with Livian and 2 self reminders really stood out from our conversations that I will make sure to keep in mind as I go on this journey.
- Be gentle with ourselves. We are always the harshest critic of our own work, but there are so many biases such as the curse of knowledge or imposter syndrome that make us feel our work is less valuable than it actually is. Be mindful of all these and embrace the journey.
- Avoid the over-justification effect. Remember our initial objective and intrinsic motivation of content creation, which is to learn and share. Don’t let external motivation such as likes and views skew us away from our initial goals. Enjoy the process of creating content and honing our skills.
This is a short post synthesise my key takeaways from the conversation. You might want to watch the video linked above as there are a lot of good points that I will definitely revisit from time to time as I face challenges in the early stage of my journey. 🙂
